CELP 5.1 -> 5p/s
CELP 6.3 -> 10p/s
GSM 14.8 -> 10p/s
GSM 16.4 -> 20p/s
CELP windows 5.2 -> 5p/s

Speex25.9 > Speex19.5 > Speex16.3 > Speex12.3 > GSM16.4 = GSM14.8 > Speex9.3 > Speex7.2 > WinCELP5.2 > Speex5.2 > CELP6.3 = CELP5.1 > Speex3.4

What is the difference between all the codecs? There are 2 ways the codecs differ.1: The compression algorithm2: The speed at wich the sounddata is send.Point 1:There are 3 algorithms used.CELP, GSM and CELP windows.CELP offers the higers compression (lowest bandwidth usage). This comes at the cost of hefty cpu power needed. But with modern pc's it should not make a noticible inpact. Also, because of the way this compression works, your voice becomes a little bit robot like, and its known that most female voices get very twisted using this codec.GSM Offers excellent voice quality, at the expense of bandwidth. Use it only if all your users have cable/dsl.CELP windows. This codec offers a little bit better sound as the other CELP codec, but it is only available under windows. (So linux users cant hear and speak with this codec)Point 2:The codecs can send the data at different rates. Example:CELP 5.1Kbit send 5 packets per second, while the CELP 6.3Kbit sends 10 packets per second. What is the difference?1: Latency (delay/lag). If 5 packets per second are send, it means that evey packet has 200 ms of speech data. This also means the sender has to wait 200 ms to get that data so it can send it. If 10 packets per second are send, each packet contains 100 ms of data. This means that the packet can be send faster, so your listeners can hear you sooner. 2: Connection saturation. It takes longer to send bigger packets. This means that gamedata has to wait longer to be send, if teamspeak is trying to send a big packet.The ratesCELP 5.1 -> 5p/sCELP 6.3 -> 10p/sGSM 14.8 -> 10p/sGSM 16.4 -> 20p/sCELP windows 5.2 -> 5p/sSpeex:Speex25.9 > Speex19.5 > Speex16.3 > Speex12.3 > GSM16.4 = GSM14.8 > Speex9.3 > Speex7.2 > WinCELP5.2 > Speex5.2 > CELP6.3 = CELP5.1 > Speex3.4Recommendation of usage:DSL/cabel and better:for talking Speex 16.3 is easily good enough, if you want to transmit music, go Speex 25.9ISDNSpeex 12.3 sounds alright, limit your download to 14 KBit/s if you want to game. Speex16.3 with download limit on 17 might also be OK.ModemSpeex 9.3 is still quite good quality. Limit your download to 10 KBit. Note that if you want to game its way to high a setting, go as low as you can bare (Speex 5.2, or even Speex 3.4, limit your download to 6 respectivly 4).Note: Since codecs are a channel-wide thing, its always a weekest-link decision - the guy with the slowest connection decides on how low you have to set the codec.Note: I hear the latency of the speex codecs TeamSpeak uses is very low. It uses 10 packets/seconds, but I was told that 20 packets/sec wont be handled by most soundcards anyway.Conclusion: After close examination of the properties of all codecs teamspeak offers, it seems to me the speex codecs win. They offer superior quality at equal bitrates, low latency and a wide range of bitrates to choose from.
